These are the Stakes. "The Stakes could write songs about calculus and people would dance to it. Live and on record, the band has a powerful chemistry, creating a potent combination of rap, jazz, funk, and pop touches that sounds totally modern while also harkening back to the golden age of Native Tongues-style hip-hop." —Phoenix New Times

Born: August 21, 1960 in Los Angeles, CA Genres: Funk-Jazz-R&B Styles: Crossover Jazz, Contemporary Jazz, Fusion, Pop, Jazz-Funk, R&B, Funk Instruments: Producer, Bass Harry Kevin Phillips has spent much of his career as an R&B Producer/Writer but he is also one of the most talented electric bassists around. He played R&B as a youth and had stints with Side Effect(1977) and L.A.Bopers before becoming Musical Director for Miki Howard(1985).

Kevin Phillips is a beast behind the kit. His behind-the-beat approach and use of double stroke rolls in his grooves draws comparisons to players like ?uest Love. Tight, but totally loose wrists, is the name of the game here. If Phoenix had its own version of Gospel Chops, he would be the poster child for it. I have even seen other local drummers ask if they can film his set, attaching GoPros to his kit to get a real full frontal view of what his body is actually doing to pour out

KC's Project coming soon

I love it when it feels good and sounds good too. Nuttin Betta
